Vaquform (TM) was conceived by John Tan, an industrial designer with over 20 years experience in product development. Frustrated with the shortcomings of 3D printing – especially for small business owners and independent makers who needed a tool for small-scale production – John recognized a potential solution in vacuum forming, if it could somehow be reduced in size and complexity. Drawing from his knowledge in thermoformer engineering, he set to work on a prototype, and publicly shared his progress online. Encouraged by the positive response, John assembled a development team.
Vaquform Inc. was established, and its first product, – The World’s First Digital Desktop Thermoformer – was launched to a successful Kickstarter campaign in February of 2017, reaching its goal in just 11 hours. Production began soon after and in Oct 2017, Vaquform DT1 started shipping to a diverse range of customers. To date, Vaquform has shipped thousands of machines worldwide to design studios, schools, research institutions, and fabrication labs – wherever makers may be.
